‘We are still reveling in what was such a special day in no small part thanks to your help, the photos look wonderful’

At the time Katie and Ethan contacted me about their wedding, they were living and working in Africa, were planning to return to the U.K where Katie was brought up to get married, and would then be moving to Ethan’s home of California in the United States.

Living in Africa meant communication in the lead up to the wedding was by email, until we finally got to meet when Katie and Ethan returned back to the U.K a few days prior to their wedding day.

Their wedding was to be a small intimate affair, and they wanted their wedding photographs to reflect this. They were not concerned about having photos of them getting ready in the morning, or the evening reception, so they asked me to capture their wedding ceremony and drinks reception only.

No two couples are the same, and as often as I photograph full day weddings, I also get to photograph lots of weddings where couples may only want a photographer for a few hours, or to only have a section of their day captured. I offer flexible wedding photography and I don’t restrict the services I offer to only full or half day weddings.

Katie and Ethan chose to hold their wedding ceremony at St Ethaldreda’s Church which sits adjacent to Hatfield House. St Ethaldreada’s is steeped in history which is what drew Katie and Ethan to it, along with its close proximity to Hatfield House where they would host their wedding reception.

Both being English teachers Katie and Ethan have a huge love of Shakespeare, and his work resonated through their wedding, from the confetti cones made from pages of his plays, to the table names and wedding favours. Katie and Ethan also honoured their love of Africa by decorating their tables with materials they had brought back with them along with wedding favours for their guests.

The couple were keen to have lots of photos of their families together, especially given Ethan’s family had travelled from California for the wedding, and they would soon be leaving Katie’s family to set up a new life in California.

Before the wedding breakfast Katie, Ethan and I spent a few moments capturing the two of them together around Hatfield House’s stunning grounds.

Thank you Katie and Ethan for having me as your wedding photographer.
