HATFIELD HOUSE SPRING WEDDING

It’s fair to say Spring weddings often bring with them unpredictable weather. 2019’s Spring season gave us some of the hottest days on record for that time of year, along with unexpected cold spells, hail and torrential rainfalls.

Rosie and Oliver’s wedding in May of 2019 offered up all of these in one day.

SPRING WEDDINGS

Fortunately, their wedding venue was the Old Palace at Hatfield House in Hertfordshire. An impressively grand building and as beautiful inside as it is outside. As their recommended wedding photographer, I consider myself very lucky to get to photograph many weddings at Hatfield House.

The Old Palace WEDDING VENUE

The Old Palace’s Banqueting Hall is full of history. Once used as a nursery to the three children of Henry VIII, and where Elizabeth 1st spent her childhood. Later she had been held here under house arrest, until finally she came to the throne.

As Queen of England she held Council of State under the same roof as Rosie and Oliver’s wedding reception.

ST ETHALDREDAS CHURCH, OLD HATFIELD

Rosie & Oliver chose St Ethaldreda’s Church in Hertfordshire for their ceremony. St Elthaldredas is only a few steps from Hatfield House. Dating back to the 13th century, so like Hatfield House it has a vast amount of history. And a perfect choice for couples wanting a religious service.

The glorious morning sunshine was replaced by rain by the time the ceremony started. After the ceremony, some short-lived sunshine reappeared which lasted just long enough for the confetti to be thrown before the guests made a rainy dash to the Old Palace.

However, by the time Rosie and Oliver’s wedding car had taken them for a short drive around the beautiful grounds of Hatfield House the blue skies had returned once again, if only fleeting.

WEDDING RECEPTION AT HATFIELD HOUSE

The Banqueting Hall played host to the wedding reception shielding guests from the rain. Whilst we nipped outside at any opportunity given for photos with the family and bridal party.

Evening celebrations kicked off with the traditional cake cut – but not a traditional cake. Marks & Spencer’s Colin the Caterpillar now has a wife, and many, many mini caterpillar babies, enough for each wedding guest.

A swing band filled the dancefloor, and finally as the evening drew in, the rain stopped. The weather may have been changeable, but it didn’t dampen Rosie and Oliver’s wedding day one bit.

Thank you Rosie & Oliver for having me as your wedding photographer!
