THE HUB ST ALBANS WEDDING

The Hub on Verulam in the heart of St Albans City Centre is a social space that is difficult to fit into a box.

First and foremost, it is a relaxed and stylish restaurant with a pub and cocktail bar. However, it also has a cinema and dedicated social spaces for local networking. The Hub is as popular on a Saturday night for socialising, as it is a creative space for midweek business meetings.

But most exciting of all is that The Hub St Albans is becoming a popular private event space, and that’s what drew Jacqui & Matt to it as a great wedding reception venue.

From my first conversation with Jacqui & Matt, I couldn’t wait to photograph their wedding at the Hub St Albans. Coming from the events and entertainment industry themselves, their brief was simple:

They wanted to strip their day of the usual wedding formalities and have the biggest and best party with the people they loved….

And boy did they bring the party!

“Zoë was simply amazing, our friends still comment on how great she was. She was present, but you didn’t know she was there “

Alongside a big emphasis on fun, was their love of the City they live in.

St Albans is regularly ranked as one of the best places to live in the UK, and it’s easy to see why.

As the third largest city in Roman Britain and with direct fast trains to London, it is a popular and affluent commuter town. St Albans offers boutique shops, historical buildings, vibrant restaurants and bars, excellent schools and an expensive property market.

We wanted to include a little nod to the town they loved in their photos, and a walk through the town to their wedding reception would give us the perfect opportunity to do so.

I photograph a lot of weddings in St Albans, and there are several wedding venues very close to the town centre. However, Jacqui & Matt wanted to move away from a traditional venue and keep their wedding authentic to themselves. The Hub offered them an alternative and non-traditional space to host their reception.

THE GATEHOUSE REGISTRY OFFICE ST ALBANS

Having a legally recognised ceremony conducted by a registrar is a wedding formality you cannot change. When you do this is up to you, but do it you must.

Nevertheless, you can keep even this aspect of a wedding informal. St Albans Registry Office, also known as The Gatehouse, gives couples the option to do just this. It has an intimate ceremony room, and the outside space of this historic former prison is a great backdrop for confetti throws and family photos.

for them, the day was all about enjoying themselves with candid wedding photos reflecting the informality of their day. Above all, they wanted relaxed and fun pictures to look back on.

“She captured some unbelievable shots which encapsulated every sense of the day”
