COMMUNITY EVENT PHOTOGRAPHY HERTFORDSHIRE

The Cinema on the Green is a fantastic family event held during the school summer holidays in August. Funded by local businesses, and hosted by the Business Improvement District team, the event is free of charge, and screens a number of films over a three-day period. It is held annually and is fast becoming the most popular free event during the summer holidays.

I joined a packed family screening of Toy Story to capture the event for the teams’ marketing and promotions department.

Dipping between the deckchairs and picnic blankets, it was such fun to photograph families tucking into their ice creams and popcorn and listening to the children reciting the words along with Woody & Buzz. There are a host of local businesses supplying food and drink for families who want to buy something on-site.

But just as many families came with their own picnic baskets and snacks. The team at Welwyn Garden City BID who organise the event do a fantastic job at making sure these events are available for all, and budget conscious families do not feel obliged to spend money.

As well as family screenings during the day time there are evening screenings held also on the green. At this time the ice cream is accompanied by Prosecco and singing at the evening screening of The Greatest Showman.

The event received fantastic feedback from the public, with many commenting on the great atmosphere and the welcomed opportunity to entertain the children without having to spend a fortune (for one day, at least) during the holidays.
